Due to the fragmentation of the Android platform, not all Android devices are fully accessible with Tecla. Here is a guide on Android devices:
Android 6 and up (Nexus and Pixel recommended, other brands may not be fully accessible)
You can use Tecla with the built-in Switch Access accessibility feature found on Android devices running version 6 and up. We recommend Nexus and Pixel devices as other manufacturers may install non-accessible components like the phone dialer, preventing you from accessing those features. For 1 or 2 switches you can use Tecla in Switch Control or App Control modes, to use the wheelchair port you can use the Mouse Keys mode.
Recommendations:
- Do not install the Tecla Access app, It's not required.
- Pair your Tecla in Switch Control/Access mode (Blinking purplish white) or Mouse Keys (if using the wheelchair port)
- Follow these instructions: Android 6 and up
Samsung devices with Android 8 with Universal Switch:
Some Samsung devices have a built-in feature called Universal Switch, this feature is compatible with the Tecla Shield in Switch Control mode.
Recommendations:
- Do not install the Tecla Access app, It's not required.
- Pair your Tecla in Switch Control/Access mode (Blinking purplish white)
- Follow these instructions: Samsung - Universal Switch
Android 5 or below:
Older Android devices might be accessible with the Tecla app, however new design guidelines (material design) are not compatible with Tecla and may deem apps inaccessible.
Recommendations:
- Install the Tecla Access app
- Pair your Tecla in Android (green) mode
- Follow these instructions: Tecla Access
