In order to use the wheelchair driving controls to control a smartphone or tablet, the chair needs to be equipped with an Environmental Control Unit (ECU) or Input/Output Module (IOM), this is an add-on for wheelchairs that allows them to control external devices.
From the ECU or IOM you can connect directly to the Tecla Shield wheelchair port using a DB9 Male to Female cable (serial).
